Calibration
Prototype actuators verified the QCW control method. Test proved that
- Slight changes in electrical input cause slight changes in mechanical output.
- Slight changes in load cause slight changes in dynamics.
This sensitivity enabled fine adjustments to obtain desired mechanical output. Given appropriate electronics, an actuator can then
- Detect its environment.
- Auto-calibrate while operating.
- Follow a changing load.
Self-diagnostics, fault detection, and self-calibration contribute to on-condition maintenance only instead of at fixed intervals.
Repeatability
Repeatability obtains the same output for the same input.
